We have been attending the Magill Sunrise Market since March, 2021. We first attended as visitors the previous October, but decided to make the leap and apply the following year – and we are so glad we did.
Even now that we have moved to Andrews Farm, we still make the monthly commute to the Campbelltown Memorial Oval to be a part of this wonderful market. If you’ve never been before – or if it’s been a while – here’s five reasons why you should pencil in the second Sunday of the Month to visit!
1. The Food – What’s better than hot cinnamon donuts? 3 donuts for just $5 always gets snatched up by our stall, and we recommend them to everyone we come across! Not to mention Robyn’s legendary zucchini fritters are to die for – and there are many other wonderful food stalls that frequent the market as well.
From coffee and classic Rotarian-made brekkies to delicious cuisines such as Tandoori Indian food, there is bound to be something for everyone.
2. The Fundraising. The Magill Sunrise Market is well known for supporting various causes throughout the year.
From a Walk for Mental Health Market to donating money in support of ending Domestic Violence, they are always reaching out to help the community. They have also donated and collected resources for those affected by homelessness, weather disasters (such as floods and droughts) and global issues.
3. The Location – offering both indoor and outdoor stalls, the Magill Sunrise Market is a great place to spend a Sunday morning.
This is one of the more city-bound Markets we attend without losing its sense of community and the casual atmosphere (sorry city markets – some of you are very snobby!).
There’s a lot of space inside and the upstairs floor can serve as an alternative during poor weather as well, meaning customers and stallholders alike don’t have to miss out on a market!
4. The Repair Café. Made up of volunteers, the Repair Café offers repairs of broken items and can often assist in teaching you how to repair your own belongings.
Dependent on the event and which volunteers are available to assist, the Repair Café offers general handyman and mechanical repairs, electrical repairs, garden tool sharpening, and the repair of wood and textiles (including sewing darning and needle felting, though not inclusive of alterations and zip replacement). It is a great alternative to fixable items being blindly tossed into landfill.
While the service is free, monetary donations are greatly appreciated to help keep the café up and running. And for anyone who is handy or has a passion for sustainability, don’t hesitate to contact rccampbelltownsa@gmail.com, as they are always looking for volunteers in various areas!
5. Easy to Apply. Last, but certainly not least, the Magill Sunrise Market is easy to apply for. There is nothing worse than having to jump through hoops to apply for a market that you are not guaranteed to be accepted into. But the Magill Sunrise Market makes it easy!
They have a website which explains all about their cause and can direct you an application form for upcoming dates. It’s easy to complete – and not to mention has a pre-fill option if you’re a regular, like us! And all of the information you could need as a stallholder can be easily acquired through a PDF download, making it less hassle for everyone involved!
There is never a dull moment at the Magill Sunrise Market, so be sure to mark the second Sunday of the month in as Market Day! From 9am-2pm, you’ll find a collection of stalls for both young and old and food that will have your mouthwatering (especially Robyn's zucchini fritters!).
We hope to see you at the next market!
