Meet Bubbles (AKA Michael)

Bubbles (AKA Michael) is the older sister to her brother, Jasper. While her name is Bubbles, we would occasionally call her Michael (referring to Bublé) as a joke. And eventually, she began responding to both names – or only one, or neither, depending on which mood she is in! I like to think of her as my genderbending cat.

She was born in October, 2012, but her idea of a ‘day well spent’ isn’t due to her age. Unlike her brother, she is always ready to laze around and have a nap, but that’s not to say she doesn’t get up to her fair share of mischief. Though being a heckin’ chonk, she can get moving when she wants to, and often runs around with her brother.

Despite how chubby she is, she has far less of an appetite than Jasper and much prefers having a nap, and then having a snack.

When she isn’t napping, you can regularly find her bird watching or basking in the sun. She’s always been a sticky-beak, often rushing to the nearest door or window whenever she hears a bird, car or one of the neighbours doing something.

She is the leader of the ‘if I fit, I sit’ campaign within our household. If you can’t find her, there is high chance she is settled in a bed, a box or your bag. She has her own nooks and hidey-holes around the house (and has even been known to take naps in the bathtub when she wants some time away from her brother).

Unlike Jasper, she hasn’t always been a huge cuddle-bug, but in recent years, we have truly seen her come out of her shell. When she was younger, you were lucky if she chose to sit on your lap and it was rare for her to stretch out and truly relax.

As the years passed, she opened up for more regular cuddles. And in 2022, she really came out of her shell as a ‘therapy cat’. During that year, my health was a constant battle and I was experiencing a plethora of unpleasant side effects from new medications I had been on. And during all of it, she was by my side – or rather, on my chest. She was a huge support through thick and thin, and helped me through some of my darkest days.

If you are a cat lover – you will see a lot of Bubbles in our Facebook Group, where we regularly post pictures on #Caturday and #ToeBeanTuesday. And you are more than welcome to post pictures of your furry friends as well! Our cats also make occasional appearances in our Facebook and Instagram posts and stories, so be sure to follow them if you’re not already.

Have a great day,

Kimberley (they/them)
