Meet Jasper

Jasper is the younger brother to Bubbles (AKA Michael). A true trouble-maker, this mischievous black cat is always keeping us on our toes. Although he was born in October, 2012, he’s not an old man by any means. He is very agile and regularly catches us off-guard with his bouts of zoomies and parkour off the walls of our home.

Despite how small he is compared to his sister; Jasper has a stomach that could make even the Very Hungry Caterpillar impressed. His favourite treats include BBQ chicken, and a nibble of cheese.

His favourite movies to watch are the Jurassic Park and the Jurassic World movies – especially because of the DVD title screens which shows velociraptors running around the screen. He always gets excited and runs to the TV when the music begins to play, and watches the story play out.

Without a doubt, his favourite human is my grandpa (who we have nicknamed Best Friend Bill). Every time the door opens for someone to come in, he always eagerly awaits to see if it's his favourite human (who admittedly won him over with lots of treats and snuggles). If it's not, he disappointedly trots off.

He has always been a huge cuddle-bug, and we can comfortably carry him around like a baby. He also loves spending time in the catio (an outdoor cat run) running around, enjoying the sunshine and watching birds.

Though cuddly, he is also the more skittish of our cats. He is easily startled, and after moving house in 2021, he developed an anxiety disorder due to the constant planes that were flying over our house (which we are managing through medication, and also improved after moving to a quieter area).

It was around this time that we also realised his hunger had dramatically increased, which his vet diagnosed as an overactive thyroid. It took 18 months of adjusting his medication, but we eventually found the appropriate dose and have seen significant improvement in his overall health. He’s still a hungry boy – he always has been – but now his sister can eat her breakfast and dinner without him battling for half (or more) of it. And he is also sick far less frequently because he is no longer eating faster than his stomach can manage.

If you are a cat lover – you will see a lot of Jasper over in our Facebook Group, where we regularly post pictures on #Caturday and #ToeBeanTuesday and you are more than welcome to post pictures of your furry friends as well! Our cattos also make occasional appearances in our Facebook and Instagram posts and stories.

Have a great day,

Kimberley (they/them)
