Yeti Earrings

The Yeti, also commonly known as the Abominable Snowman, is a mythical creature which resembles a large, hairy being. The Yeti has origins in folklore, and one of the earliest mentions of the creature was in 326 B.C. when Alexander the Great demanded to see a Yeti. The legend of the Yeti caught traction in 1921 when Westerners began travelling to the Himalayas. A group of explorers told journalist, Henry Newman, they discovered large footprints on the mountain. Their guides credited the prints to ‘metoh-kangmi’, which translates to ‘man-bear snow-man’. While Newman understood ‘snow-man’, he mistranslated ‘metoh’ as filthy, and later decided that ‘abominable’ sounded far more menacing for the paper he was to publish. And thus, the legend of the Abominable Snowman was spread across the globe!

I took a traditionally cartoon approach to our Yeti earrings, with icy blue features and blue horns. Each yeti is individually handcrafted from polymer clay.

We have a choice of traditional earring hooks, leverback earring hooks, mini hoops, clip on earrings and screw on earrings. Clip on and screw on earrings are ideal for people who do not have their ears pierced! If you’re not sure which earring hook is which, we have a reference picture of all earring hooks available. Traditional earring hooks are at the top, followed by leverback earring hooks, etc. We also have traditional earring hooks available in Sterling Silver, Pure Gold and Acrylic for sensitive ears.
